valid species (a species that has an existence in the real world and is recognised as such. In opposition to a species thought to be distinct but which does not actually exist, is no longer recognised, or is treated as a synonym). May be confused with the usage of established for an introduced species, and a valid species could be ignored and therefore established is inappropriate
