burping, belching or ructus is the release of gas from the digestive tract. In fishes this may be from the vent, or from the gas bladder connected to the gut via the pneumatic duct, and thence the mouth. Some eructations may be just emptying the gas bladder but others appear to be a deliberate sound production as it does not vary over time, e.g. in certain eels and catfishes
