(1785-1865)
Actor. Anschütz had more than 250 roles in his repertoire at the Burgtheater in Vienna in the mid-1800s, as one of that institution's most versatile performers. Heinrich Laube considered him a worthy successor to Friedrich Ludwig Schröder and August Wilhelm Iffland, though that estimation is no doubt somewhat exaggerated. His vocal work was extraordinarily resonant, and many considered his Lear and Falstaff among the best of his generation.
