[nɔɪz], Alfred, englischer Schriftsteller, * Wolverhampton 16. 9. 1880, ✝ Ryde (Isle of Wight) 28. 6. 1958; 1914-23 Professor für englische Literatur an der Princeton University; schrieb Erzählungen, das Blankversepos »Drake« (1906-08, 2 Bände), volkstümliche Gedichte und Balladen. Die Trilogie »The torch-bearers« (1922-30, 3 Bände) über große Erfinder und Entdecker zeigt den wachsenden Einfluss der Religion auf Noyes, der 1926 zum Katholizismus konvertierte und sich auch in »The unknown God« (1934) und »Voltaire« (1936; deutsch) mit Glaubensfragen auseinander setzte.
