   Austrian author and composer. He was born in Prague. He was a founder of the National Council of Jews of Czechoslovakia and became active in the Zionist movement. In 1939 he settled in Palestine, where he worked as a music critic and drama adviser to the Ha-Bimah theatre. His writings include a trilogy of historical novels, a story of the Israeli War of Independence, and studies of Judaism. He was the discoverer and biographer of Franz Kafka, whose works he edited. His musical compositions include Requiem Hebra'icum and Israeli dances.
