BEERHOFMANN, RICHARD

(1866-1945)

   Austrian poet and playwright. Born in Vienna, he emigrated to New York in 1939 after the Nazi occupation of Austria. Much of his work deals with Jewish themes. In a trilogy of biblical plays he sought to restate in modern terms the Hebraic position on funda-mental questions of human existence.
