BERNARD, AGUSTA
(1886-1946)
She initiated the idea of using both her first and last name in an effort to maintain a unique identity. She opened her own business in Paris in 1919 and was known for her use of pale colors when designing eveningwear. Agusta Bernard began a marketing concept of name recognition that proves to be successful into the twenty-first century, since it specifically applies to identity in the fashion industry. Hattie Carnegie similarly employed this concept in 1889; the Threeasfour design team is an example of this in 2006.
