NIETO, DAVID

(1654-1728)

   British rabbi and philos-opher. He was born in Venice. He served as a rabbi in Livorno, and in 1702 became Haham of the Sephardi community in London. He wrote about the Inquisition and also produced anti-Shabbetaian polemics. His Matteh Dan is a philosophical defence of Judaism.
