ARNO, us, Neptuns Amme, welche den Namen von ἀρνέομαι, ich leugne, bekommen haben soll, weil sie, als Saturn sie gefraget, ob sie nicht besagten seinen Sohn habe, solches steif und fest geleugnet. Tzetz. ad Lycophr. v. 644. Von ihr soll sonst auch die Stadt Arne in Böotien den Namen bekommen haben, welche vorher Sinousa geheißen, Theseus in Corinth. lib. IV. ap. eumd. l. c. wiewohl doch auch andere dieser den Namen von ihren vielen Schafen, die im Griechischen Ἄρνες heißen, beygeleget wissen wollen. Crato ap. eumd. l. c. Bey allem dem aber wollen doch einige solche Arno lieber selbst Arnen genannt wissen. Potter. in Emendat. ad Tzetz. l. c. n. 2.
