(1888-1956)
   Belorussian Yiddish poet and journalist. He was born in Minsk. He suffered from illness from early childhood and when he attempted to emigrate to the US in 1925 he was refused entry because of ill-health, and was forced to return to Europe. He finally settled in New York after the rise of Nazism. His stories, fables and articles (including a series on the conditions of Jews in Lithuania, Latvia and Poland) were printed in newspapers in Russia, Poland and the US.
