KADDISH
Kaddish: translation
(Heb. "Sanctification")
Refers to a doxological text in Hebrew and Aramaic sung to articulate the sections of a Jewish liturgy. By 1200, it had become associated with mourning. There are 13 traditional melodic settings, used for different liturgical contexts, not including settings for particularly solemn feast days and a Missinai setting. The textual version is independent of the melody used.
