Bidwell's ghost: translation

   Also referred to as Purkinje afterimage. The eponym Bidwell's ghost refers to the British physicist Shelford Bidwell (1848-1909). It is used to denote a * negative afterimage that appears second in a temporal sequence of *afterimages resulting from exposure to a brief light stimulus. Like other negative afterimages, Bidwell's ghost takes on a hue complementary to that ofthe original optical stimulus. Bidwell's ghost is commonly classified as a *physiological illusion.
