Russel und mit eigenen Gruppen. 1964 gründete er das Hindustani Jazz Sextet, später eine Bigband. Er blies eine speziell für ihn konstruierte Vierteltontrompete, die feinste Tonnuancierungen ermöglicht. In seine Arrangements und Kompositionen sind Elemente der Zwölftontechnik und der Popmusik sowie der indischen Musik eingeflossen.
