[lateinisch] Plural, bei Insekten vorkommende, mit den Corpora allata und dem Protocerebrum in Nervenverbindung stehende, paarige (sekundär durch Verschmelzung auch unpaarig) drüsenartige Organe, die hinter dem Gehirn zu beiden Seiten des Aortavorderendes liegen. Man vermutet in den Corpora cardiaca die Leit- und Schaltstelle für Nervenimpulse und Hormonströme.

Corpora cardiaca, als paarige Gehirnanhänge ausgebildetes Neurohämalorgan verschiedener Insektengruppen, in das ein vom Gehirn auf einen häutungsauslösenden Reiz aus der Umwelt hin gebildetes Neurohormon gelangt. Das Neurohormon erreicht über die Hämolymphe die ⇒ Prothoraxdrüsen und stimuliert sie.
