AULA MAGNA
Aula Magna: translation
The large state chamber in the Coudenberg Palace built during the reign of the dukes of Burgundy at town expense, the Aula Magna was completed in 1460. The hall contained the ducal throne famed for its rich decoration. Charles V abdicated the imperial office here in 1555. It was destroyed when the ducal palace burned in 1731. Archaeological digs at the site on the northeast corner of place Royale have been ongoing since 1995.
