DAVIDSON, ISRAEL

(1870-1939)

   American Hebrew scholar. He was born in Lithuania and emigrated to the US in 1888. He became professor of medieval Hebrew literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary. His Thesaurus of Medieval Hebrew Poetry lists in alphabetical order the initial words of more than 35,000 poems and prayers from post-biblical times to the present.
