Luigi, italienischer Komponist, * Venedig 29. 1. 1924, ✝ ebenda 8. 5. 1990; Schüler von G. F. Malipiero und B. Maderna; lebte freischaffend in seiner Heimatstadt. Von A. Webern ausgehend, ist Nono nach 1950 durch serielle Instrumentalstücke (u. a. »Polifonica - Monodica - Ritmica«, 1951) bekannt geworden und entwickelte bald einen individualtypischen, hochexpressiven Gesangsstil, der konstruktives Denken mit einer Art gereinigter Kantabilität verbindet. Zwischen 1955 und 1962 entstanden fast ausschließlich Chorwerke auf antifaschistische, sozialistische oder revolutionäre Texte; Höhepunkt dieser Periode ist Nonos erste Oper beziehungsweise »szenische Aktion« »Intolleranza« (1960, Uraufführung 1961) mit ihrem Bezug auf aktuelle Ereignisse in Algerien; die Neufassung des Werks (1970) aktualisiert das Thema vor dem Hintergrund des Vietnamkrieges durch elektronische Einblendungen. Seit 1964 (»La fabbrica illuminata«) arbeitete Nono häufig mit Tonbandeinblendungen, um die politische Aussage seiner Stücke zu verdeutlichen, so auch in seiner szenischen Aktion »Al gran sole carico d'amore« (1975; Unter der großen Sonne mit Liebe beladen) über die Frauen der Revolutionen. Eine ästhetische Neuorientierung nach 1975 fand in der Vielschichtigkeit der Texturen des Streichquartetts »Fragmente - Stille.An Diotima« (1979/80) ihren ersten Niederschlag. 1980 begann Nono mit Forschungen über Raumdynamik und Mikrointervalle, die ihn zu einer von aller Form befreiten, sich selbst entwickelnden Klangsprache führten (Musiktheater »Prometeo«, 1984).
