   Israeli poet and literary historian. He was born in New York, but in 1946 he left the US for France, where he worked with Jewish war orphans. In 1947 he emigrated to Palestine. His publications include There Are No Black Flowers, Snow in Jerusalem and At the Stone of Losses. He edited the Penguin Book of Hebrew Verse, and was one of the editors of The Modern Hebrew Poem Itself. In addition he has translated numerous classic works into Hebrew.
