   Polish communal leader in the Warsaw Ghetto. He was one of the four commanders of the Jewish Fighting Organization set up in Warsaw on 22 July 1942. During the ghetto uprising in April 1943 he took part in the battle against the Germans. He helped to organize the Jewish National Council, a Jewish underground resistance movement among Jews hiding on the Aryan side of the ghetto boundary. He emigrated to Israel in 1946 and served as a prosecution witness at the Eichmann trial in 1961.
