HOOK SIZE
size is determined by the gap or gape between the shank and point; the lower the number the larger the hook, e.g. a size 24 hook has a gap of 2 mm while a size 2 has a gap of 10 mm. After size 1 the numbering system becomes 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 as size increases. There is a great deal of variation in hook size with pattern and manufacturer and other numbering systems may be encountered.
