Chloe: translation

Chloe f
From the Late Greek name Khloē, originally used in the classical period as an epithet of the fertility goddess Demeter. It seems to be connected with CHLORIS (SEE Chloris). It occurs only fleetingly in the New Testament (1 Corinthians 1: 11), but its use as a given name in the English-speaking world almost certainly derives from this, having been adopted by 17th-century Puritans. It has survived much better than the majority of the minor biblical names taken up in the 17th century.
