   Hungarian chemist and philosopher. He studied at the University of Budapest and worked on the chemisty of liquids and thermodynamics. He later emigrated to Germany and worked at Karlsruhe University and subse-quently the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute. When Hitler came to power, he went to. Manchester, England and became a professor of chemistry at the University of Manchester. Later he became professor of social studies there. His works include The Concept of Freedom: The Russian Experiment and After, Full Employment and Free Trade, Science, Faith and Society, Personal Knowledge, Beyond Nihilism and Knowing and Being.
