   Politician. Frans Andriessen studied law at the University of Utrecht and became a specialist in public housing problems. As a member of the Katholieke Volkspartij (KVP, Catholic People’s Party), Andriessen was elected to Parliament in 1967. After 10 years, he was appointed minister of finance in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Dries van Agt. In the European Commission of the European Union (EU), Andriessen served under Gaston Thorn (1981–1985) and then under Jacques Delors (1985–1992). He was a member of many councils and committees, and, since 1990, has been an unpaid professor of European integration at the University of Utrecht.
