   Israeli-born Elbaz studied fashion at Shen-kar College of Engineering and Design in Israel before moving to the United States. After a short stint designing bridalwear, Elbaz spent seven years designing alongside Geoffrey Beene. Upon leaving Beene, he went to work at Guy Laroche, and then did a short run at Yves Saint Laurent before being ousted in 2000 by the new owner, Gucci. In 2001, he was hired as creative director at the house of Lanvin. He is a master of detail and is known for his modern take on couture.
