Thẹsis
 
[griechisch »Auftreten des Fußes«] die, -/...sen, griechische Metrik: ursprüngliche Bezeichnung für die dem schweren Taktteil entsprechende Senkung des Fußes bei der Taktmarkierung und damit die Betonung der Silbe (Gegensatz: Arsis).Die Thesis entspricht damit in ihrer Bedeutung dem deutschen Begriff der Hebung. Bei den spätlateinischen Grammatikern bezeichnete Thesis die Senkung der Stimme und, in Umkehrung der ursprünglichen Bedeutung, die unbetonte, kurze Silbe. In diesem Sinn wird der Begriff Senkung in der deutschen Verslehre verwendet.
