Design room: translation

   The American name given to a designer's work space. In Europe the term used is atelier. Beginning in the late 1980s, design rooms have been phased out as more of the pattern-making and samplemaking process moved offshore to save costs. Today, it is considered a luxury for a designer to have his/her own design room.
