[dt. »Luft-Schnittstelle«, auch »Flughafen«], von den Firmen Apple und Lucent entwickeltes System zum Aufbau drahtloser Netzwerke (WLAN). Dazu wird ein Rechner mit einer speziellen Steckkarte zur Basisstation; das Gegenstück in den Satellitenrechnern ist eine PCMCIA-ähnliche Karte (PCMCIA), die in die anzuschließenden Rechner eingesetzt wird. Die Basisstation fungiert zwischen jeder ihrer drei Schnittstellen (Ethernet, Modem, Funk) als Router, sodass ein problemloser Datenaustausch zwischen allen Netzen möglich ist. Das Netz kann mit einer Basisstation bis zu zehn Rechner umfassen. Der Datendurchsatz liegt theoretisch bei der vom Übertragungsstandard IEEE 802.11b vorgegebenen Maximalrate von elf Mbit pro Sekunde, erreicht aber im praktischen Betrieb nur Werte zwischen 300 und 500 Kbit pro Sekunde.
 
Gedacht ist das Air-Port-System für Orte, an denen Rechner schnell vernetzt werden sollen, eine Verkabelung aber ausscheidet.
