BEN ZOMA, SIMEON

(fl. 2nd cent.)

   Palestinian sage. He was a contemporary of Akiva. It appears that he studied under Joshua ben Hananiah. The Mishnah declares that he was the last of the authoritative biblical expositors. Many of his sayings became proverbs. He was one of the sages who was concerned with mystical speculation concerning creation and the divine chariot.
