Benno: translation
Benno m
German: from a medieval short form of various compound Germanic names containing the first element bern bear. By the later Middle Ages it came to be considered and used as a short form of BENEDICT (SEE Benedict). St Benno (1010–1106) was a bishop of Meissen, who preached to the Wends in what is now East Germany. He is the patron saint of Munich.
