(2000)
From 11 July to 22 July 2000, President William J. (Bill) Clinton of the United States (US), Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) chairman and Palestinian Authority president Yasser Arafat and their respective delegations met for ongoing discussions at the presidential retreat at Camp David, Maryland. The purpose was to try to work out a comprehensive permanent status peace agreement. Although creative ideas for bridging the Israeli and Palestinian positions on such issues as settlements, final borders, refugees, and Jerusalem were put forward, mainly by the Israelis and the Americans, no agreement was reached.
