Mens: übersetzung

MENS, tis, war eine besondere Göttinn der Römer, die den Menschen einen guten Sinn oder ein gutes Gemüth geben sollte. Augustin. de C. D. l. IV. c. 21. Es gelobete ihr zuerst T. Ottacilius, als Prätor, einen Tempel nach der Schlacht bey dem thrasimenischen See, und weihete ihr denselben auch zwey Jahre hernach wirklich ein. Livius l. XXII. c. 10. & XXIII. c. 31. cf. Ovid. Fast. VI. v. 241. Ein gleiches that M. Aemil. Scaurus in dem Kriege mit den Cimbern. Ihr Fest wurde jährlich den 8ten Junius, auf dem Kapitolio, gefeyret. Ovid. l. c. v. 246. Nach einigen versetzete sie selbst der Rath mit unter die Götter. Lactant. Inst. I. c. 20. §. 13. Man hat auch noch eine Aufschrift, die ihr gewiedmet ist. Gruter. Inscr. XCIX. 7.
