BIGLYCAN

biglycan: translation

A small proteoglycan, 150-240 kD, of the extracellular matrix. The core protein has a mass of around 42 kD and is very similar to the core protein of decorin and fibromodulin. All three have highly conserved sequences containing 10 internal homologous repeats of around 25 amino acids with leucine-rich motifs. Biglycan has two glycosaminoglycan chains, either chondroitin sulphate or dermatan sulphate and N-linked oligosaccharides.
