(biblical form of the name EVILMERODACH; reigned 561–560 B.C.)
King of Babylon, son and successor of Nebuchadrezzar II. He reigned only for a short time and was deposed by his sister’s husband, Neriglissar. According to later sources, such as a fragmentary Babylonian epic, he deserved this fate because he had not listened to his counselors and had neglected the Babylonian temples.
