   Actor, director, and screenwriter. Richard Bohringer made his start in film as an actor. He first role was in Gérard Brach's comedy La Maison in 1970. In 1972, he landed his first starring role in Charles Matton's L'Italien des roses. His popularity rose in the 1980s with his roles in cinéma du look director Jean-Jacques Beineix's Diva (1981) and Robin Davis's J'ai épousé une ombre (1981). He won a César for Best Supporting Actor in Denis Amar's L'Addition in 1985. He also played memorable roles in Luc Besson's Subway and Jean-Pierre Mocky's Agent trouble (1987) and Les Saisons du plaisir (1988).Bohringer won a César for Best Actor in Jean-Loup Hubert's Le Grand chemin in 1988. He then appeared in his first English-language film, Peter Greenaway's The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover (1989). Bohringer played subsequent leading roles in Hubert's Après la guerre (1989), Edouard Molinero's A Gauche en sortant de l'ascenseur (1989), Jean-Charles Tacchella's Dames Galantes (1990), and Gérard Jugnot's Une époque formidable (1991).
   In 1992, Bohringer acted alongside his daughter, Romane Bohringer, in Claude Miller's L'Accompagnatrice. He later played significant parts in Jérôme Boivin's Confessions d'un barjo (1992), Patrice Leconte's Tango (1993), Matton's La lumière des étoiles mortes (1993), Burkinabé director Idrissa Ouedraogo's Le cri du coeur (1994), Miller's Le sourire (1994), Aline Issermann's Dieu, l'amant de ma mère et le fils du charcutier (1995), Bernard Giraudeau's Les Caprices d'un fleuve (1996), Amar's Saraka Bo (1996), Enki Bilal's TykoMoon (1996), Thomas Gilou's La Vérité si je mens ! (1997), Pierre François Limbosch's Requiem pour un décor (1998), Francis Girod's Mauvais genres (2001), and Alain Bévérini's Total khéops (2002). He has also acted extensively in television. He directed one feature film, C'est beau une ville la nuit (2003).
