(1904-1989)
Born in Bègles, France, Lily Daché began her career as a millinery designer in France, then went to New York in 1925 to create not only high-quality hats but also, by 1949, clothing, accessories, perfume, and costume jewelry. Daché saw an advantage of the American depression of the 1930s and built upon the concept that women could add fashion to a dated and tired wardrobe with an inexpensive hat. She called this line Dachettes. Her most famous hat style was her turban. Daché was known to study the facial structure of her clients and design hats that would emphasize the positive; this won her a place of significance with Hollywood starlets.
