   The drama critic and publisher was born in Albany, New York. Bettelheim was best known as the founder of the Dramatic News, which he ran in opposition to the Shubert organization's New York Review. He died on 15 January 1938, less than two months after the suicide of his son, Spencer D. Bettelheim, treasurer of Broadway's Music Box Theatre.
