Boye: translation
Boye m
Dutch: of uncertain origin, found in this form from the early Middle Ages onwards. It may derive from the Germanic personal name Bodo (a short form of various compound names containing the element bod messenger, tidings), with the loss of d between vowels typical of Dutch. Alternatively, it may have been originally a byname cognate with modern English boy lad, young man.
Cognate: Frisian: Boje.
