brail: translation
1) a form of dip net used to lift fish out of a purse seine or other net on board ship. Also called brailer
2) to use a brail
3) a stick attached to the outer end of the wing of a trawl or haul seine to keep it spread
4) to throw large quantities of chum (q.v.) overboard
5) small ropes fastened to the edges of fish nets to truss them up
6) to play or splash about on the water surface (Scottish dialect)
