ASSAF SIMHAH

(1889-1953)
   Israeli historian and rabbinic scholar. From 1915 to 1919 he taught Talmud and was director of a yeshivah in Odessa. In 1921 he settled in Jerusalem. He later became a professor and rector at the Hebrew University and a member of the Israeli Supreme Court. He wrote many studies of the gaonic period, the history of Jewish law, medieval Jewish culture, and the history of the Jewish community in Palestine.
