Ex|plo|ra|ti|on [lat. exploratio = Auskundschaftung]: in der Geophysik die z.B. durch Probebohrungen vorzunehmende genauere Untersuchung potentiell abbauwürdiger, durch Prospektion aufgefundener Lagerstätten von Erzen u. fossilen Brennstoffen.

[lateinisch, zu explorare »erforschen«] die, -/-en,  
 1) Geophysik: das Aufsuchen und die Erforschung von Erz-, Erdöl- u. a. Lagerstätten mithilfe von geologischen und geophysikalischen Erkundungsmethoden (gravimetrische, erdmagnetische, geoelektrische, radiometrische, geothermische, seismische u. a. Messungen, auch durch Fernerkundung). Bohrlochmessungen.
 
 2) Medizin: Befragung eines Patienten zur Aufstellung einer Anamnese.
 
 3) Psychotherapie: intensive psychoanalytische Befragung eines Patienten als integrierender Teil der Behandlung. Die Exploration wird meist im Anschluss an eine Diagnose durchgeführt. Der Psychotherapeut versucht dabei, den Betroffenen zu ungehemmten Äußerungen zu bewegen. Bei der Bewertung der Exploration zieht man auch Wesensmerkmale (wie Kontaktfreudigkeit, persönliche Ausstrahlung, Auftreten) heran.
