A group of diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatic fever, scleroderma and others, that are sometimes referred to as rheumatic diseases. They probably do not affect solely connective tissues but the diseases are linked in various ways and have interesting immunological features which suggest that they may be autoimmune in origin.
