Filat: translation
Filat m
Russian: the usual vernacular contracted form of Feofilakt, from the Greek personal name Theophylaktos ‘guarded by God’ (from theos god + phylassein to guard, protect). This was the name of a 9th-century saint, bishop of Nicomedia, venerated in the Orthodox Church. In the Roman Martyrology he is commemorated under the much more common name Theophilus.
