   American painter. He was born in Bounoviski, Lithuania, and emigrated to the US in 1920. Following the Depression he was employed by the Federal Arts Project in Boston. Early in his career he painted works dealing with European Jewry and he later returned to themes of the synagogue and Jewish observance.
