(1895–1962)
Roscoe Ates played comic supporting roles in film and television from the 1930s to the early 1960s. From 1946–1948, he held down the regular role of Eddie Dean’s sidekick, Soapy Jones, known for his comic stutter. Tumbleweed Trail (1946), a Producers Releasing Corporation (PRC) production starring Dean and Shirley Patterson, represents a typical B Western film in which Ates appeared. Television Westerns gave Ates regular work throughout the 1950s.
