ADAMBERGER, ANTONIE

(1790-1867)

   Actress. Among the finest actresses of the early 19th century at Vienna's Burgtheater, Adamberger was regularly featured as Klärchen in Johann Wolfgang Goethe's Egmont. She played several other leading tragic roles by Goethe and Friedrich Schiller at the Burg and from 1810 to 1817 was regarded as the Burg's premiere tragedienne. Adamberger left the Burg in the 1830s to assume the much less rigorous duties of lady-in-waiting, becoming a reader for the imperial Habsburg court.
