FANUM VOLTUMNAE

   The federal sanctuary of the Etruscan Dodecapolis, as recorded by ancient authors. This was probably a late development among the Etruscans, perhaps under pressure from Rome. A possible location is in the region of Orvieto, which is also more or less centrally placed among Etruscan cities. Recent excavations (in 2006) of a sanctuary at Campo della Fiera, podere Giardino della Regina, near the city appear to consolidate this claim.
