   The federal sanctuary of the Etruscan Dodecapolis, as recorded by ancient authors. This was probably a late development among the Etruscans, perhaps under pressure from Rome. A possible location is in the region of Orvieto, which is also more or less centrally placed among Etruscan cities. Recent excavations (in 2006) of a sanctuary at Campo della Fiera, podere Giardino della Regina, near the city appear to consolidate this claim. Some scholars (particularly French) have preferred nearby sites such as Bolsena for the location
