BOONE, RICHARD

(1917–1981)
A student of the famed Actors Studio, Richard Boone always seemed destined for greatness as a classically trained actor. Yet, partially due to a bad temper frequently displayed on the set, he never fulfilled what he thought his destiny might be and, as a result, led a troubled life. Best known as the suave hired gun in his long running television Western series Have Gun, Will Travel (1957–1963), Boone also played secondary parts in a number of 1950s Westerns such as Delmer Davies’ Return of the Texan (1952) ; Siege at Red River (1954) ; Ten Wanted Men (1955), starring Randolph Scott; and Man Without a Star (1955), starring Kirk Douglas. His most notable film Western, though, was Rio Conchos (1964) in which he starred as an ex-Confederate officer intent on preventing a gunrunner from selling guns to the Apaches.
