DELMEDIGO, ELIJAH BEN MOSES ABBA
(c. 1460-97)
Greco-Italian philosopher and talmudist. He was born in Crete and emigrated to Italy, where he served as head of the yeshivah in Padua. He engaged in a bitter controversy on a halakhic question with Judah Mintz, the rabbi of Padua. Subsequently he left Italy and returned to Crete, where he completed his major work, The Examination of Religion.
