Arne: übersetzung

ARNE, es, Gr. Ἄρνη, ης, (⇒ Tab. XXV.) des Aeolus Tochter, wurde vom Neptun zu Falle gebracht. Weil es aber der Vater nicht glauben wollte, so gab er sie einem gewissen Metapontiner, sie mit hinweg zu nehmen. Sie kamen darauf nach Metapont, und da gebahr sie den Böotus und Aeolus, welche besagter Metapontiner, weil er sonst keine Kinder hatte, an Sohns statt annahm. Allein, als zwischen ihr und des Metapontiners Frau Streit entstund, so machten sie diese nieder, mußten aber auch, nebst der Arne, von Metapont hinweg gehen. Diod. Sic. lib. IV. c. 69. p. 187. Von ihr bekamen hernach die Städte Arne in Thessalien, und Böotien den Namen, deren letztere aber mit der Zeit auch Chäronea genannt wurde. Pausan. Bœot. c. 40. Cf. Eustath. ad Hom. Il. Β. v. 507.

[ɑːn], Thomas Augustine, britischer Komponist, * London 12. 3. 1710, ✝ ebenda 5. 3. 1778; schrieb Opern, Masques, Musik zu Dramen von J. Milton und Shakespeare, zwei Oratorien, Kantaten, Glees, Catches, Sinfonien, Triosonaten, Klavier- und Orgelmusik. Die volkstümliche Melodie des »Rule Britannia« stammt aus dem Finale von Arnes »The masque of Alfred« (1740).
