CONFEDERATE DOLLAR

найдено в "Investment dictionary"

A currency issued by the Confederate States of America during the U.S. Civil War, which served as the currency of the eleven southern states. Confederate dollars became worthless after the end of the Civil War and the fall of the Confederacy, when they ceased to be used in circulation.

In the 1860s, the U.S. created over $400 million in legal tender to finance its war against itself. These were called greenbacks simply because the backs were printed in green. The government backed this currency and stated that it could be used to pay back public and private debts. Confederate dollars were issued by the Confederate States of America in order to finance their activities.
